You will become a part of what you pray for!
As you spend time praying for your area and get to know the people in it, you will learn of specific things to pray for. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you and to make you aware of what to pray for. If you prayer walk or prayer drive your area, you may discover that the Holy Spirit will impress upon you specific things to pray for concerning certain homes or businesses.
Prayer Walking
Walking through a specific area puts Christians in the place where the work needs to be done, where the problems are, and where the people are. While we may recognize that "Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms"(Eph. 6:12) we may never really deal with these on a practical level. We can pray from a distance and be effective. We can pray "on site" and be even more effective.
Elements of a Prayer Walk
PRAISE
The Bible proclaims that the very reason we are chosen and delivered from darkness is so that we might declare God‟ praises. "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light" (1 Peter 2:9)."Sing praises to the Lord enthroned in Zion, proclaim among the nations what He has done".
PRAYER
Prayer targets the specific needs in the lives of individuals, communities and nations. Satan is alive and active in our society. The Bible teaches us many ways to deal with Satan‟ attacks and influences. As we declare the name of Jesus, present our needs to God and intercede for others, the evil forces in the heavenly realms must bow down. Praying with the authority God has given us changes the spiritual climate of a household, a neighborhood, a community, a city, even a nation (John 16:33).
PROCLAMATION
As we proclaim our faith in God and proclaim what Jesus has done, others will also believe in God and look to Jesus as their Savior. By our public proclamation, we witness to His truth and faithfulness and fulfill Psalm 9:11
The Walk
You can prayer walk as an individual or as a group.
As an individual:
Choose your own time and place and praise, pray, and proclaim.
As a group:
r Meet as a group at a specific time and place.
r Share any known need or prayer requests for the area to be walked through.
r Have a short time of instruction. (i.e. How long to walk, who takes what area, how many groups, where to meet at end of walk, etc.)Walk and pray, sing, dance, shout, praise the Lord.
r Have a short meeting after the prayer walk to share experiences and testimonies.
r Keep on praying as you go your separate ways.
